چکیده

The combination of growing energy demand and environmental concerns has made the development of CO2 capture and storage technologies a necessity for the near-future energy mix. Post-combustion CO2 capture is one of the most mature technologies for reducing CO2 emissions in power plants. As a next step for the technology development, large-scale demonstration capture plants have to be implemented. However, two major drawbacks still affect the implementation of post-combustion capture: the high capture cost and the degradation of solvents leading to potential emissions of degradation products to the atmosphere. In the present study, both aspects are considered.

Process Design of Aqueous Ammonia - based Post - combustion CO 2 Capture

In the present work, the aqueous ammonia-based post-combustion CO2 capture (PCC) process is simulated using the rate-based model in Aspen Plus, by which the method of sizing column heights is revealed. The heights of the staged CO2 absorbers and the NH3 absorber are determined as 5 m, 6 m, and 6 m; in addition, the heights of the CO2 and NH3 strippers are 12 m and 6 m, respectively. It is well ...

Experimental Studies of CO2 Capturing from the Flue Gases

CO2 emissions from combustion flue gases have turned into a major factor in global warming. Post-combustion carbon capture (PCC) from industrial utility flue gases by reactive absorption can substantially reduce the emissions of the greenhouse gas CO2. To test a new solvent (AIT600) for this purpose, a small pilot plant was used. This paper presents the results of studies ...

A Physical Absorption Assessment of a New Alternative Solvent for Carbon Capture

The reliance of the world economies on the use of fossil fuels (i.e. coal, natural gas and oil) as primary source of energy, have contributes to the high emission of CO2 in atmosphere. One of the promising way to mitigate the CO2 emission is by implemented Post Combustion Carbon Capture (PCCC) through absorption process. PCCC by amines based solvent is a method to remove the carbon dioxide from...

Ionic Liquid Design for Enhanced Carbon Dioxide Capture – A Computer Aided Molecular Design Approach

Greenhouse gases emission is known as the main factor of climate change, and carbon dioxide (CO2) makes up vast majority of them. Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a vital technology to mitigate industrial CO2 emissions, which is mainly generated in power plants. Currently, post-combustion capture based on aqueous amine scrubbing is considered as the most suitable technology for CO2 capture. ...

Flue gas treatment for CO2 capture

This report is in two sections: the first describes the flue gas and its treatment in post-combustion capture and the second covers the flue gas in oxyfuel combustion capture. The main components of the flue gas in pulverised coal combustion for postcombustion capture are CO2, N2, O2 and H2O, and air pollutants such as SOx, NOx, particulates, HCl, HF, mercury as well as other contaminants. The ...
